I am now in the Train leaving Taibei to Taidong, travelling along the East Coast of Taiwan. After staying in Hong Kong for one night I have been in Taibei to get started with my trip in Taiwan.
Hong Kong was quite hot again, after the cool and pleasant weather in Shanghai. I went shopping and bought the Camera I already picked out on my last stay here but coudnt convince myself to finally buy. It is a Panasonic TZ-5 and I got is quite cheap, last time I checked around 320€ in Europe and 250€ here. So I will be continuing to take pictures along on the way and upload them on my Picture website at http://picasaweb.google.com/erathostenes/AuswahlChina2008 .
In Hongkong I also met Rita, a Hongkongese I know from Taichung back when I was in Taiwan. Always great to see old friends.
The next day, after being at the each for a swim, I then took the Bus to the Airport and took the Plane to Taibei.
Here in Taibei I met with Xiao Du, who has been my host here for quite a few times.
Finally back in Taiwan! It really is a bit like coming home, even not so much in Taibei.
Unfortunately did I lock myself out of the SIM Card I had arranged for here to be reachable per cellphone. Now I have to wait till I arranged an alternative.
Anyways, arranged by my physical chemistry professor I had this invitation to visit the IAMS, an institute for atomic and molecular science at the academica sinica. It was very interesting and fruitful, first connections for whatever might develop from that. They work on specially prepared fluorecent nanodiamond particles as markers for biochemistry.
Then a third day in Taibei, meeting some old and new friends, like Pablo, who used to study where Cesar worked and some others.
Meanwhile I was arranging for the next week, finding a couch in Taidong and noticing my friend in Lanyu. Lanyu is an island off the coast in the southeast of Taiwan, reportedly very beautiful and quiet. Tim, our roommate from the first time at the fire department, is now working there for a perioud of time as a flight controller in training. So he invited me to visit a few days.
After that I am planning to go to Tainan and then of to more destinations along the island.
