The last weekend I have been in Steinmaur near Zürich in Switzerland for the wedding of my good friend and mentor from Taiwan, Koli. I felt very honored to be invited for this happy occasion. So it was no question, I just had to go there. I hichhiked both ways and stayed with a very nice host in Baden, not very far from there. I had a very nice weekend after all.
Hiking there turned out to be quite smooth, just once I had to change direction on the Highway.
After finishing cleaning the lab on Friday, I got on the road southbound.
With just a few rides I made good progress towards my destination. In the evening I finally then arrived in Baden, where I had found a host to stay.
Baden is an old city with a nice city center, but its also quite wealthy and has a lot of postmodern parts, making up for a quite fascinating mix. After being shown around by my host, we went back to his place, a very interesting spacy appartment in a very interesting style.
The next morning I went from Baden to Steinmaur, about 15 kilometres down the road, hitching a ride for a part of the way and walking the rest.
As the weather (after weeks and weeks of rain here in Germany) turned out to be perfect, I had a great Saturday noon walk.
When I then finally arrived, I still was a bit early, but one after the other the first guests arrived at the church and then also the bride couple.
In the church then the pastor gave a very well done speech about marriage and ways to make it last and worthwile. He spoke german, but some parts he also put in english for the bride, who had a friend translating for her.
Then finally, the wedding ceremony itself took place and both of the two muttered their yes. Then the kiss and both were wife and husband...
In the time before it was a bit confusing because both were already married officially in Taiwan in this January, but just yet they married in church. One never knew how to adress them, for they already had a common name and lived together, but there was still a marriage to come.
Unfortuately, none of the relatives of my friend Koli could make it from Taiwan, but it had been the same at the other wedding over there at his time..
Afterwards both had to be brave for taking a lot of pictures and keep a blending smile on their face. The assembly then went to a nice garten restaurant for an after meeting and a celebration.
Luckily, like already noted, the weather was just perfect, so to make it a great memory to remember for quite some time.
Still afterwards a smaller circle of closer friends moved on for dinner at another place. I got to know a few of the new relatives my friend now has to deal with and I think she will do fine. They all are very nice people, quite interesting maybe, but I think she will manage just fine.
Late that evening I went back to Baden and then Sunday noon I hiched back home. It went very smooth, I got directly taken to Kaiserslautern again, and now the first exams draw near. Lets see what will turn out.
